Tuberculosis
MODES OF SPREAD
Transmitted from person to person by-------
- Transmitted mainly by droplet infection and droplet nuclei from tuberculosis positive patient
- Coughing produces large number of droplets by which disease is spread
- Fomites doesn’t play a significant role
SYMPTOMS
- Loss of weight, loss of energy, poor appetite
- Fever –low grade fever with evening rise of temperature, and night sweats
- Cough of more than 3 weeks duration with sputum which may or may not be associated with blood
- The patients with above symptoms should go for sputum examination and take appropriate medical care
PREVENTION
- BCG vaccine to be given to every child at birth prevent from severe forms of the disease but not from lung infection of tuberculosis
- Avoid direct face to face contact with the person suffering from tuberculosis or use kerchiefs, masks etc., to cover your mouth and nose
- Treatment also can stop the spread of TB in large populations.
- Recurrences can be prevented by complete treatment of a tuberculosis patient
