Fluconazole Hyosine Butyl Bromide

            Glipizide

Glipizide is a second generation sulfonyl ureas, having a similar pharmacological profile, as that of Glibenclamide or glicazide. The drug helps to control the blood sugar levels in the body. It is used for treating noninsulin-dependent (Type II) diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).

Working
The drug increases the amount of insulin in the blood. It helps the human body to use insulin more efficiently. The drug is available in tablet form. This drug is often combined with the intake of proper diet and exercise.

Dosage
2.5 -5 mg daily ½ hour before meals. Gradually increase by 2.5-5 mg at weekly intervals to max 20 mg daily.

Contra- Indications: Juvenile diabetes mellitus. Pregnancy, stress. Renal or hepatic dysfunction. Impaired adrenocortical function ketoacidosis. Diabetic pre- coma and coma.

Side Effects
The drug has certain side effects, that can affect individuals in different ways. The following are some of the side effects, that are often associated with the drug:
  • Nausea
  • Uriticaria
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Drowsiness
