            Gatifloxacin

Gatifloxacin is an antibiotic drug belonging to the class of flouroquinolone and widely used for treating certain types of lung, sinus, skin, and urinary tract bacterial infections. Gatifloxacin is also used to treat certain types of STDs or sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea

The drug is a broad spectrum flouroquinolone that offers enhanced gram-positive activity and anaerobic coverage compared to other flouroquinolone.

Working
The drug acts by killing the bacteria that cause infection in the body

Dosage
Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, complicated urinary tract infections: 400 mg for 7-10 days.
Acute sinusitis: 400 mg for 10 days
Uncomplicated urinary tract infection: 400 mg as single dose or 200 mg for 3 days

Contra- Indications: Hypersensitivity, Children below 18 years, Pregnancy

Side Effects
The drug has certain side effects, that can affect individuals in different ways. The following are some of the side effects, that are often associated with the drug:
  • Seizures
  • Rapid Heart Beat
  • Mental Confusion
  • Hallucinations
  • Agitation
