Ciprofloxacin Chloroquine

            Cephalexin

Cephalexin is a bactericidal which is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. The drug is used to treat urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections.

Working
The drug acts by severely injuring the cell walls of the infecting bacteria, and thereby preventing them from growing and multiplying. It kills susceptible bacteria, but is ineffective against viruses, parasites, or fungi.

Dosage
Adults: 1-4 gm daily in equally divided doses 6 hourly
Children: 5-15 years:- 25-50 mg/kg body weight daily in divided doses
The drug is available in Tablets (200 mg and 400 mg) and oral suspension (100 mg per 5-ml spoonful)

Contra- Indications: Hypersensitivity to Penicillins and Cephalosporins

Side Effects
The drug has certain side effects, that can affect individuals in different ways. The following are some of the side effects, that are often associated with the drug:

Pregnant women should take the drug with caution and after consulting a medical practitioner. The drug passes into the breast milk, hence should be avoided when feeding. Renal impairment may occur in elderly people.
